While Americans deem the smile the most important physical attribute, a surprising 37 percent of Americans don’t know that poor oral health has been associated with serious health conditions such as stroke, heart disease and diabetes. Give Kids A Smile® (GKAS)IMAGE: Give Kids A Smile Logo

Celebrating its 10th year in 2012, Give Kids A Smile® is the American Dental Association’s signature oral health outreach project designed to encourage parents, health professionals and policymakers to address the year-round need for oral health care for all children. Each year, more than 40,000 dental professionals and volunteers provide free educational, preventive and restorative dental services to approximately 450,000 children from underserved families across the nation.

Water Fluoridation: Celebrating 60 Years of Tooth Decay Prevention

The American Dental Association endorses the fluoridation of community water supplies and the use of fluoride-containing products as safe and effective measures for preventing tooth decay. Water fluoridation is the controlled adjustment of the natural fluoride concentration in a public water supply up to the level recommended for preventing tooth decay. In 2005, the ADA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention commemorated the 60th anniversary of community water fluoridation.
