Revised Accreditation Standards
At its January 31, 2013 meeting, the Commission adopted the revised Accreditation Standards for Dental Assisting Education Programs, Advanced Specialty Education Programs in Endodontics, Orthodontics, Periodontics, Dental Public Health and Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. The revised standards and self-study guides will be implemented January 1, 2014.

At its February 1, 2013 meeting, the Commission adopted revisions to the Accreditation Standards for Advanced General Dentistry Education Programs in Dental Anesthesiology. Specifically revisions were made to Standards 2-4, 2-6, 2-7, 2-7, 2-8, 2-9, 2-10, 2-17, 3-2, 5-3, and 6-1. In addition, the words proficient and proficiency were removed from the Standards document. The implementation date of the revised Standards is July 1, 2015.
At its February 3, 2012 meeting, the Commission adopted revisions to the Accreditation Standard for Pediatric Dentistry. At its August 9, 2012 meeting, the Commission adopted editorial changes to the revised Accreditation Standard for Advanced Specialty Education Programs in Pediatric Dentistry. The revised standard and self-study guide will be implemented July 1, 2013.

At its February 3, 2012 meeting, the Commission approved a revision to the Predoctoral Standard 2-23.e. This revision will be implemented July 1, 2013.

At its August 6, 2010 meeting, the Commission on Dental Accreditation adopted a resolution to approve the Accreditation Standards for Dental Education Programs. The required implementation date is July 1, 2013, however, programs may elect to implement the new standards beginning January 2012 through June 30, 2013.
The Self-Study Guide that accompanies the new standards may be used beginning January 1, 2012, and is required for self-studies after July 1, 2013.
Circulation of Proposed Standards
At its February 3, 2013 meeting, the Commission on Dental Accreditation directed that the proposed Accreditation Standard for Dental Therapy be circulated to the communities of interest for review and comment until December 1, 2013. In addition, open hearings will be held at the 2013 Annual Meeting of the American Dental Education Association, the 2013 Annual Meeting of the American Dental Association, the 2013 Annual Meeting of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association, and the 2013 Annual Meeting of the American Dental Assistants Association.

At its August 10, 2012 meeting, the Commission directed that the proposed revised Accreditation Standards for Dental Laboratory Technology Education Programs (comments due July 1, 2013), the proposed revised Accreditation Standards for Advanced Specialty Education Programs in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology (comments due June 1, 2013), and the proposed revised Accreditation Standards for Advanced Specialty Education Programs in Prosthodontics (comments due June 1, 2013) be circulated for comment among the communities of interest for a period of one year. An open hearing will be held at the American Dental Association Annual Session, October 2012 in San Francisco, CA and at the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) Annual Session, March 2013 in Seattle, WA.
