Types of CDT Licenses
Software Developers License
Grants a license to software developers who develop or distribute commercial software product(s) to end users in the dental industry, such as dental plan companies, third party administrators, hospital and healthcare networks, financial advisors and other benefits advisors and consultants, for use in processing, administrating or analyzing dental claims and/or benefit plan data.
Practice Management Software License
Grants a license to software developers to incorporate and distribute the CDT content solely as part of Licensee's application software product or bundled product. This type of license is designed for software developers who provide practice management software to dentists and their staff within a dental office or other health care facility where patients are treated.
Grants a license to republish the CDT content in print and/or electronic books, such as textbooks, reference manuals and practice management guides.
Government User License
Grants a license to departments and agencies of a federal, state or local government.
Dental Benefit Plans License
Grants a license to dental benefits companies in the dental benefits industry, including dental HMOs, dental PPOs, discount dental plans and dental indemnity carriers that reference the CDT to: develop, market and administer dental benefit products; accept dental insurance claims and related information; report the adjudication of such claims on Explanation of Benefits to members and dental offices; and report to state insurance regulators and customers.

Grants a license to clearinghouse companies that transmit electronic dental claims and other related dental transactions (e.g., eligibility checks, benefit coverage information, claims status, etc.) received from one entity to another that include CDT content. Clearinghouse services may include translating dental transactions into another media or data format, or verifying the data integrity of the information received.
Third Party Administrators License (TPA)
Grants a license to any person or entity that provides administrative services, including the processing of dental benefits claims, in connection with a Dental Benefits Plan or Direct Reimbursement Plan, for other entities. TPAs administer all or a portion of the dental claims process, including but not limited to: enrollments; claims processing, adjustment, settlement or payment; provider network management; and utilization review. A TPA may include an employer, a subsidiary of an employer, a union that performs certain functions on behalf of its members, or an insurance company.
Consulting Service License
Grants a license to consultants and other professionals who distribute copies of the CDT to third parties in the course of providing consulting or other professional services, such as fee schedule reviews or actuarial services. Formats include presentations in real time by an instructor speaking to a live audience either directly or via video, the Internet, broadcasting, teleconferencing services, or other means of transmission.
Grants a license to seminar developers and speakers who distribute copies of the CDT to third parties in the course of providing seminar or other professional services. Examples include dental educational workshop, course, seminar or the like on the topic of dental coding that is developed, marketed, sold, offered, hosted, sponsored, administered, produced or presented by the seminar developer.
Grants a license solely to educational entities that use, copy and distribute limited portions of the CDT in connection with dental coding educational workshops.
ADA Dental Claim Form License
Grants a license to companies that print and distribute the ADA Dental Claim Form, solely in printed format and without modification, to other users.
