New York Dentist Installed as American Dental Association Trustee
CHICAGO, Oct. 13, 2010—Steven Gounardes, D.D.S., a Brooklyn, New York- based general dentist, was installed today as a trustee of the American Dental Association (ADA). Dr. Gounardes’s installation took place in Orlando, Fla., at the ADA's 151st Annual Session.
Dr. Gounardes will serve on the ADA Board as the trustee from the Second District (New York.) The ADA Board formulates and reviews policies and programs and makes recommendations to the members of the ADA's governing body, the House of Delegates. As a member of the Board, Dr. Gounardes will play a major role in the ADA's organizational objective of being America’s leading advocate for oral health.
Dr. Gounardes is a past president of the New York State Dental Association. He has served as a delegate to the ADA House of Delegates for the past six years. Dr. Gounardes also served as the chairman of the 2008 House of Delegates Reference Committee on Dental Benefits and Dental Practice.
He is a certified parliamentarian and a recipient of the Distinguished Dentist Award from the Pierre Fauchard Academy in 2007.
A graduate of the City University of New York’s Brooklyn College, Dr. Gounardes received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the New York University College of Dentistry in 1984. He completed his residency and fellowship at the Woodhull Medical and Mental Health Hospital in Brooklyn and has been assistant director of its Department of Dentistry and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery since 1987.
Dr. Gounardes is married to Dianne Vivian Gounardes. They have three children: Andrew, Patricia and Gregory.
