Q: Where will the GKAS Institute be held?
A: The Institute will be held at the St. Louis Give Kids A Smile clinic, located at the St. Louis University Center for Advanced Dental Education, 3320 Rutger Street, St. Louis, Missouri 63104.
Q: What is the application deadline?
A: The application deadline for the GKAS Institute is Monday, April 29, 2014.
Q: When and how will I find out if I have been selected to attend?
A: All applicants for the GKAS Institute will be notified of the selection committee’s decision during the week of May 27, 2014. Notification will be done via email, so please ensure that emails from the ADA/GKAS do not enter your spam mailbox.
Q: What are the dates for the Institute?
A: The GKAS Institute will be held from October 22-25, 2014. You will be required to be present for all days of the Institute.
Q: Is there going to be a GKAS Promising Practices Symposium this year?
A: The GKAS Promising Practices Symposium has been replaced with the GKAS Community Leadership Development Institute. This GKAS Institute will foster in person hands-on experience in providing long-term care for children, using the St. Louis GKAS Clinic as a model for individuals interested in increasing their efforts in caring for the oral health needs of children across America.
Q: Do you have information about past symposiums?
A: Yes, if you go to the Give Kids A Smile webpage, there is information about previous symposiums and on planning GKAS events. For information on previous symposiums, visit the GKAS Give Kids A Smile Symposium Proceedings page.

Q: Are all of the meals covered during the Institute?
A: Several meals will be provided throughout the GKAS Institute, but there will be occasions in which participants will be required to eat on their own and provide the resources necessary to do so.
Q: Can I copy and paste responses into the grant application from Microsoft Word?
A: Yes, you can copy and paste your responses to each question into each separate text box on the application.
Q: Can I save my application mid-way through and then return to it later before submitting?
A: You cannot save the application midway through applying. However, you can open the application, type your responses in a word document and then copy and paste them onto the application once your responses are complete.
Q: What is the proposed agenda for the GKAS Institute?
A: The agenda is currently being developed. It will contain some classroom lecture, open dialogue among the ambassadors, hands-on experience, and observation of the clinic’s operations first-hand. We will keep you informed as the agenda is finalized.
Q: Is having conducted a Give Kids A Smile program a prerequisite for applying for the grant?
A: You do not need to have previous experience in conducting a Give Kids A Smile program; however, the GKAS National Advisory Committee Promising Practices Subcommittee will look most favorably upon programs that are willing and able to make major programmatic decisions. Q: If I applied for the GKAS Institute in 2013, am I allowed to apply again this year?
A: Yes, you can apply for the Institute again in 2014 if you were not selected as an ambassador in 2013.
