On May 15, 2013, the ADA launched Action for Dental Health: Dentists Making a Difference, a nationwide campaign addressing America's dental health crisis. In conjunction with the launch of the campaign, ADA leaders, healthcare leaders and members of congress spoke at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.. They elaborated on the need to take action, and what steps the ADA would take to close America's "dental divide."

Robert A. Faiella, D.M.D., M.M.Sc. President

About the speaker: Dr. Faiella received his pre-doctoral education from Villanova University, earning two Bachelor of Science degrees, and his D.M.D degree from Fairleigh Dickenson University School of Dental Medicine. He received his graduate training in Periodontology as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Harvard School of Dental Medicine, as well as a Masters of Medical Science degree from Harvard Medical School. Speaker Bios

Robert A. Faiella, D.M.D., M.M.Sc. President
Dr. Faiella received his pre-doctoral education from Villanova University, earning two Bachelor of Science degrees, and his D.M.D degree from Fairleigh Dickenson University School of Dental Medicine. He received his graduate training in Periodontology as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Harvard School of Dental Medicine, as well as a Masters of Medical Science degree from Harvard Medical School. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, and a Fellow of the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists, the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the American Academy of Dental Science, and the International Team for Implantology (ITI).

Dr. Faiella has served on numerous councils and committees on the national, constituent, and component levels. He is a past president of the Massachusetts Dental Society, and former ADA First District Trustee. He has also served as the chairman and sole director of ADA Business Enterprises, Inc., the wholly owned for-profit subsidiary of the American Dental Association.

U.S. Congressman Paul Gosar
Congressman Paul A. Gosar, DDS hails from Prescott, Arizona and is serving his second term in Congress as the Representative from Arizona’s Fourth Congressional District.  As a health care provider and small business owner, Gosar is focused on bringing jobs back to the district, reforming health care, reining in government spending, and ensuring that the American people are involved in the solution making process.

Before being elected to Congress in 2010, Gosar owned his own dental practice in Flagstaff for twenty-five years.  His experience in Dentistry earned him the recognition of the Arizona Dental Association’s “Dentist of the Year,” and he was also inducted into the Arizona Dental Association’s Hall of Fame.  His experience in working to reform health care first came when he served as the President of the Arizona Dental Association and as the Vice-Chair of the American Dental Association Council on Governmental Affairs.

U.S. Congressman Mike Simpson
Congressman Simpson serves on the House Appropriations Committee. He is the Chairman for the Subcommittee on Interior and Environment. He also serves on the Energy and Water Development Subcommittee and the Labor, Health and Human Services and Education Subcommittee. These committees have jurisdiction over funding for a number of programs critical to Idaho, including the Department of Energy, the Department of the Interior, the Forest Service, our National Parks, the National Endowment for the Arts, and Smithsonian Institute.

Congressman Simpson’s political career began in 1980, when he was elected to the Blackfoot City Council. In 1984, he was elected to the Idaho Legislature where he served until 1998, the last six years serving as Speaker. Simpson was born in Burley, Idaho and raised in Blackfoot. He graduated from Utah State University and earned his DMD from Washington University School of Dental Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. After graduation, he joined his father and uncle at the Simpson Family Dental Practice in Blackfoot.

Angela Black
Angela Black serves as Services at Large Outreach Coordinator for the Chickasaw Nation Division of Health. She has 12 years of dental assistance experience and eight years of experience as an expanded function dental assistant, in addition to being a certified oral surgery anesthesia assistant. She is a Community Dental Health Coordinator (CDHC), a community health worker with dental skills focusing on education and prevention. In 2011, she graduated from the University of Oklahoma-College of Dentistry's CDHC program.

Samantha A. Pearl
Samantha A. Pearl is the Executive Director of Community HealthCare Connections, a nonprofit organization whose mission it is to serve as a resource for the uninsured and underinsured residents of Calhoun County. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and Management from Olivet College, and has worked in the areas of Nonprofit, Benefits Management and Human Resources for 19 years.

Mark Crawford
Mark Crawford is the Vice President of Community Health Services at Bronson Battle Creek (BBC) health system, where he serves as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and on the Bronson Community Health System Steering Team. An active community leader, he currently serves as chair of NorthPointe Woods board (retirement community), chair of Integrated Health Partners board, treasurer of the Albion Health Care Alliance, trustee of the DeVinney Fund, and serves as a board member of Battle Creek Silent Observer and on the leadership council of the Regional Health Alliance. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Albion College and graduated from Leadership Michigan in 1998.

Regina A. Corso
Regina A. Corso is Senior Vice President at Harris Poll, Public Relations and Youth Research, and has vast experience in public opinion research and communications spanning the political and corporate spectrums. She has been with Harris Interactive since August of 2004 as a Research Director for the Public Affairs Research team. Prior to joining Harris, she was Vice President at Vox Populi Communications, a public opinion research firm which handles political and corporate work. She received her Bachelor of Arts in political science from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. Regina also received an M.A. in Political Management from the Graduate School of Political Management at The George Washington.
