Application Process
All applications are initiated by either the dentist's component or constituent dental society. The application is investigated by the constituent society relief fund to ascertain the eligibility of the applicant, the amount of assistance required, and the duration of the grant. Once the application has been approved by the constituent society relief fund, it is forwarded, along with recommendations for action, to the ADAF for consideration. After the application is reviewed by the Charitable Assistance Programs Committee for completeness, it is voted upon. If approved, the constituent relief fund and ADA Foundation share equally in the funding of the grant.

Types of Grants
Individuals applying to the ADAF Relief Grant Program for the first time, apply for an initial grant, which can be given for a maximum of six months. The grant recipient receives a check each month from the ADAF Relief Grant Program. Subsequent extensions to an initial grant, a renewal grant, may be made for a maximum period of 12 months. Requests to renew either grant involve the same application process as an initial grant. An emergency grant can be made in cases of special emergency and is a single payment. An emergency grant can be given only once to an individual.
