ADA endorses nomination of Dr. Tom Price as secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services
January 06, 2017
The ADA this week supported Rep. Tom Price (R-Georgia) for secretary of Health and Human Services. As a member of the Georgia state legislature, Dr. Price maintained a good relationship with dentists in his district and exhibited a deep understanding of dental issues. He took that understanding with him to Congress when first elected to the House in 2005. As chairman of the House Budget Committee and member of the Ways and Means Committee, he has consistently worked with organized dentistry on important issues affecting the dental profession and patients across the country. The ADA Council on Government Affairs believes that Dr. Price, as secretary of HHS, would be well poised in the coming year as a Republican controlled Congress tackles health care reform. While the ADA is on record opposing parts of the Affordable Care Act, it strongly believes that some portions of the law extending care to vulnerable populations must be retained.
