Association Reiterates Support for Strong Anti-Smoking Statute
June 04, 2014
The ADA last week joined with 31 other organizations in the PARTNERS for Effective Tobacco Policy coalition to urge the leaders of the House Appropriations Committee to reject proposed amendments that would exempt any type of cigar from regulation under the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (P.L. 111-31). The coalition is led by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.
The coalition letter (PDF), sent May 27 to Committee Chairman Harold Rogers (R-Ky.) and Ranking Member Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.), also asked that the committee reject efforts to impede the Food and Drug Administration as it determines its role in regulating all tobacco products.
