House Committee Examining Health Bills, ADH Legislation Under Consideration
August 11, 2014
The House Energy and Commerce Committee is considering holding hearings on a number of public health measures within the next couple of weeks, the Washington Office has learned. Rep. Robin Kelly’s (D-Ill.) Action for Dental Health Act (H.R. 4395) is currently under review by Committee staff.
The ADA-backed legislation would provide grants totaling $20 million annually to constituent and component dental societies and other organizations at the state and local level to implement Action for Dental Health initiatives that reduce the barriers to care. Even with a price tag that modest, a bill without specified budgetary offsets faces a tough future in this Congress. The ADA nonetheless will continue lobbying for this important legislation and is encouraged by the fact that so far the bill has 41 bipartisan cosponsors.
