CMS Pushes Part D Enrollment Enforcement Date Back a Year

March 11, 2016

Responding to concerns from the ADA and other organizations, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) again delayed enforcing a rule that dentists and other providers must enroll in Medicare to prescribe drugs to beneficiaries. The requirement, authorized by the Affordable Care Act, was to be enforced on Jun. 1, 2016, but has now been moved back to Feb. 1, 2017.

The ADA is still lobbying for legislation (H.R. 4062) that would exempt dentists, chiropractors, optometrists and podiatrists from the rule.
