Congressman, ADA Seek More Funding for Military Dental Research
March 21, 2016
Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas) last week asked the House Appropriations Committee to redirect an extra $2 million of defense funding toward military dental research. In sending his letter, Rep. Smith, who serves as chairman of the House Science Committee, is supporting the ADA’s request that appropriators direct a total of $8 million toward this research, which is more than just finding ways to fight cavities in the field (although it does include that). Military dental researchers are developing better ways to repair and reconstruct severe facial and neck wounds. The Association has long been the leading organization lobbying on behalf of such research.
