House, Senate Negotiators Protect Military Dental Chiefs’ Status
October 01, 2015
House and Senate conferees working on the 2015 defense reauthorization legislation have agreed to omit language originally drafted by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) that would have restricted military chief dental officers to no higher than the rank of one star. This is a victory for the ADA, the foremost organization lobbying on the issue. The new measure passed the House this afternoon by a vote of 270-156, with eight not voting. The Senate still must act.
ADA President Dr. Maxine Feinberg and Executive Director Dr. Kathleen O’Loughlin wrote to lawmakers in June, urging them to preserve the rank of two-star general officers in the military dental corps. The letter is available online here
