September 01, 2016
In an Aug. 30 letter to the editor of the Wall Street Journal (subscription required), Dr. Jane Grover, director of the ADA Council on Access, Prevention and Interprofessional Relations, responded to an Aug. 19 opinion piece entitled “You Don’t Need to Be a Dentist to Fill a Cavity.” In her letter, Dr. Grover addressed the many barriers to accessing dental care and wrote that simply adding another provider to fill cavities won’t improve oral health. She stressed that the answer is connecting patients with fully trained dentists. She highlighted the work of community dental health coordinators.
