Success Dental Student Programs

The Success Dental Student Programs provide the next generation of dentists with ethical and practice management information and valuable ADA resources for the transition from dental school to dental practice. The ADA offers the Success Dental Student Programs, which consist of four presentations, one for each year in dental school, to every school, every year. Success Smart Start for Freshmen
This two-hour program addresses financial planning, dental career options, and tips for success in dental school. The agenda includes:

  • Career opportunities in dentistry
  • Student loans, level of debt, and interest rates
  • Budgeting and managing finances
  • Stress management

Success Professional Preview for Sophomores
This two-hour program encourages sophomore dental students to consider some of the important interpersonal skills and individual choices that will impact their future career. The presentation includes:

  • Career philosophy
  • Finding a mentor
  • Communication and listening skills
  • Ergonomics and dentistry

Success Career Strategies for Juniors
This two-hour program addresses the skills necessary for professional success post-graduation. Topics include:

  • Advanced dental education programs
  • Associateships and other employment opportunities
  • CV writing
  • Interviewing for professional positions and specialty programs
  • Finding a job and negotiating compensation

Success Practice Management for Seniors
This full-day program (four to six hours) addresses practice management aspects of dentistry. The agenda includes:

  • Locating, financing and marketing the dental practice
  • Recruiting and leading a successful dental team
  • Patient expectations and dentist responsibilities
  • Ethics—real life situations new dentists face
