ADA brochure highlights sports safety

April 09, 2012

Persuading kids to wear a mouthguard may be an uphill battle. The ADA offers a patient education brochure, Sports Safety, that helps dentists get kids and parents on board with facial protection.

Sports Safety emphasizes that a properly fitted mouthguard is a key piece of athletic gear. As dentists know—but parents may not—mouthguards cushion impact that may otherwise cause broken teeth, jaw injuries or cuts to the lip, tongue or face.

The brochure explains the benefits of custom mouthguards made by the dentist and offers tips on mouthguard care. It also lists sports and active games for which mouthguard use is recommended, from acrobatics to skateboarding to wrestling, and offers tips for what to do if a dental emergency does occur. The brochure has been recently revised and was co-produced with the Academy for Sports Dentistry.

Sports Safety can be previewed and ordered from ADA Catalog or by calling the ADA at 1-800-947-4746. To save 15 percent on this or any ADA Catalog product, use promotional code 12213 before May 31.
