NJ legislature officially declares February as CDHM

January 16, 2012

Trenton, N.J.—The New Jersey legislature, with the urging of the New Jersey Dental Association, has declared February Children's Dental Health Month.

Each year, February will be designated as the month to increase public awareness of the importance of good oral health among all of New Jersey's children. The state health and senior services and human services departments, in addition to all other public and private health entities, are encouraged to observe the month with appropriate activities and programs.

February is also when Give Kids A Smile is celebrated. Each year on the first Friday in February, thousands of the nation's dentists provide free oral health care services to children from low-income families across the country.

"It appears our message is reaching those who have the power to make change," said Eric Elmore, spokesman for the New Jersey Dental Association. "Already recognized by a former governor as the model for volunteer health care, New Jersey's Give Kids A Smile program continues to brighten the smiles and futures of thousands of children in need each year."
