The Council on Scientific Affairs has updated three of its council statements, which are now live and available on ADA.org.
The CSA approved the updates at its April 2012 meeting. The statements include:
• Statement on Dental Unit Waterlines. The primary update includes the addition of information about a case report in Italy of a waterline related fatality from Legionnaire’s disease (Statement on Dental Unit Waterlines).
• Statement on the Safety and Effectiveness of Tooth Whitening Products. The update is primarily editorial, including deletion of some redundancy and the addition of a summary section (Statement on the Safety and Effectiveness of Tooth Whitening Products).
• Statement on Treatment of Patients with Infectious Diseases of Uncertain Transmission. This statement was developed with the Council on Ethics, Bylaws and Judicial Affairs and the update incorporates CEBJA modifications. The scientific content is current and has not been changed in the revised statement. (Statement on the Treatment of Patients with Infectious Diseases of Uncertain Transmission).
