The Council on Dental Education and Licensure voted May 4 to support the American Society of Dentist Anesthesiologists’ request for specialty recognition.
It’s now up to the 2012 House of Delegates to decide whether dental anesthesiology will become the 10th ADA-recognized dental specialty.
The vote followed a year-long study by CDEL’s Committee on Recognition of Specialties and Interest Areas in General Dentistry, which recommended approval.
Members of the American Society of Dentist Anesthesiologists addressed CDEL before the May 4 vote was taken. ASDA submitted its application in June 2011. CDEL received many comments on the application from individuals and organizations during an open comment period.
