How to get people to 'like’ your practice

San Francisco—A picture of Dr. A appeared on the screen.
Networking: Rita Zamora has been in the dental industry for 18 years, starting as a file clerk in a dental office.
“What do you know about him based on this photo?” Rita Zamora, an international speaker on social media, asked the sold-out crowd Oct. 19.
The adjectives that came to mind were sincere, stocky, cocky and over 30.
“The truth is, it’s kind of tough to tell a lot about this man’s photograph,” said Ms. Zamora, who also noted that Dr. A does not have a Facebook profile.
Then she showed photos of Dr. B, who could be seen with his children, fly fishing, biking and at a race; all photos pulled from his Facebook profile. What did the audience think of Dr. B? He’s friendly, fun, healthy and exercises, they said.
“It’s really nice to stand at the front of the room for Dr. B because a lot of you have these big smiles on your faces,” Ms. Zamora said.
Her point: many patients seek out information about dentists or health care providers before they make the decision to choose them. Ms. Zamora led the sold-out course Introduction to Facebook Marketing for Your Practice Oct. 19, designed to present the social media website to those who have either never used it or who have little experience with it.
Ms. Zamora gave the audience tips on how to create a Facebook profile for their practice, grow their patient community on Facebook and find the best way to market their practice to prospective patients.
