Zombies on the march

Elmo has an unexpected ally in the campaign to get kids to brush their teeth.
The Ad Council is reviewing the new Stop Zombie Mouth music video to include with its other video creations that encourage parents and children to spend two minutes, two times a day brushing their teeth. Kids can brush along to the video featuring the Putrid Posse characters D.K., Rott, Plak and P.U. Videos are posted at the website www.2min2x.org.
“Invite us for some gingivitis,” the zombies sing in the new video. “We’ll destroy your gums and teeth and leave it stinky underneath!”
The Ad Council agreed to add the Stop Zombie Mouth video to its collection of public service announcements on oral health created by the Ad Council and Partnership for Healthy Mouths, Healthy Lives, which includes the ADA and 35 other dental organizations. “Sesame Street” Elmo videos are also on the website.
The ADA/PopCap Games' Stop Zombie Mouth initiative that provides trading cards redeemable for a free download of the video game Plants vs. Zombies is being used by dentists, parents and other organizations as an alternative to handing out sugary snacks on Halloween.
The ADA will have 4,000 Stop Zombie Mouth kits available to distribute during Annual Session this month in San Francisco. Visit the Welcome Center to pick up a kit, play the Plants vs. Zombies video game and have your photo taken with a zombie.
The website Stopzombiemouth.com has downloadable coupons for free copies of Plants vs. Zombies, the family friendly video game for Mac and PCs; Halloween masks; party invitations; links to ADA Find-a-Dentist and MouthHealthy.org; and tips on preventing “zombie mouth.”
As the campaign marches on—game downloads are good through Nov. 10—the ADA is receiving shout-outs from Mayor Bloomberg’s Eating Healthy NYC campaign, the Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity at Yale University and the Center for Science in the Public Interest’s nutrition office.
