“The Indian Health Service (IHS) has been a fantastic career for me and it is an honor and privilege to serve as the director for the IHS Division of Oral Health,” he said. “I am looking forward to working with our dedicated health providers and support staff who strive to meet the needs of all American Indian and Alaska Native people.
“It is my vision that the partnerships we have developed over the last four years of our five-year Early Childhood Caries Collaborative will continue. We will continue to implement the 2011-2020 IHS Oral Health Surveillance Plan. We have successfully deployed the Electronic Dental Record system to 134 sites and work will continue to bring the EDR to the remaining 96 sites in the queue,” Dr. Lozon said.
Dr. Lozon chairs the IHS National Oral Health Council and has served on several national IHS workgroups. He was deployed as a commissioned officer to the World Trade Center as a forensic odontologist in September 2001; to San Antonio, Texas, as part of a three-member team assigned by the HHS Secretary to provide liaison duties to assist federal, state and local coordination of resources for Hurricane Katrina evacuees, and twice with the 2nd Dental Battalion Naval Dental Center at Camp Lejeune, N.C., to provide dental care for U.S. Marine and Sailor dental readiness.
The director of the IHS Division of Oral Health has responsibilities for planning, developing, coordinating and evaluating national, area and service unit dental health programs. Dr. Lozon will direct and manage the division budget, contracts, grants and other agreements and projects.
