Meeting on Special Care Dentistry in March
December 08, 2014
Dental professionals can learn from experts who treat patients with special needs at the 27th Annual Meeting on Special Care Dentistry this spring.
The meeting, hosted by the Special Care Dentistry Association, will convene March 27-29, 2015, at the Grand Hyatt Denver.
“When you think about it, every practice has a patient with a special need,” said Dr. Jason M. Grinter, a general dentist in Chicago and SCDA president. “The term ‘special needs’ can cover a variety of situations: an intellectual or developmental disability, being home bound, having severe dental phobia, having one or more medically complex issues that require treatment in a hospital setting or aging issues that require a special set of skills. There is no better way to meet the pioneers and leaders of this special niche in dentistry than to attend our annual session in Denver.
SCDA’s best asset is its members, and the experience and knowledge our members have in this field can’t be found in a book alone. Whether you work in the university setting, an institution, hospital, nursing home or in private practice, SCDA has something for everyone.”
This year’s program highlights include a keynote address by Eddie Barbanell, an actor with Down syndrome known for his portrayal of Billy in the 2005 movie, “The Ringer;” special learning tracks for treating oncology and geriatric patients; networking opportunities; and a learning track for students.
“This will be our second year focusing on student members and new dental professionals entering into the field of special patient care,” said Dr. Grinter. “The meeting will include continuing education and networking opportunities specifically with them in mind.”
