July 18, 2014
The CDC-NIH National Diabetes Education Program will offer three webinars on working together to manage diabetes: tools and strategies for pharmacy, podiatry, optometry and dentistry. This webinar will provide a "quick course" on diabetes and how PPOD health care providers can collaborate and make cross-disciplinary treatment referrals.
Webinars will be offered Monday Aug. 18 at 12 noon EDT and 8 pm EDT and Monday Sept. 8 at 12 noon EDT.
"You can make a difference," said the notice posted at readytalk.com
. "You and other providers of pharmacy, podiatry, optometry and dentistry (PPOD) are well positioned to advise and educate your patients about diabetes control and prevention. You may be the first to see a person with or at risk for diabetes.
"The NDEP developed the PPOD Toolkit to show PPOD practitioners how you can work collaboratively with each other as well as with other members of the health care team, such as primary health care providers, physician assistants, nurse educators and community health workers to promote better outcomes in people with diabetes." The PPOD Toolkit, available at cdc.gov
(NDEP-54), includes a chapter entitled What Dental Professionals Would Like Team Members to Know About Oral Health and Diabetes and similar sections with advice from pharmacists, podiatrists and eye care professionals.
