The American Student Dental Association, the ADA and all of dentistry join the family of past ASDA President Jiwon Lee in mourning her death. She was 29 years old.

“ASDA is about the dental profession and creating policy, but more than anything, it is about people,” said ASDA President Kristopher Mendoza in a statement. “It is about our community, our family known as ASDA that brings us closer than any words on a document can. Please keep Jiwon and her family in your thoughts and prayers during these difficult times.”

Ms. Lee’s family confirmed her death on May 4 on a Gofundme.com Web page originally set up by her brother to raise money for a private investigator to find her after she was reported missing April 1.  The Web page has since been renamed the Jiwon Lee Memorial Scholarship Fund (gofundme.com/840ci8).

Ms. Lee served as the 2013-14 president of ASDA. During her term, ASDA saw nearly 90 percent market share and the implementation of an advocacy alert system. She served as an appointed member of the ADA’s Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations and as a member of the ASDA’s delegation to the 2013 ADA House of Delegates.

The family is planning a memorial service and will post further details on the Gofundme.com Web page.
