ADA offers online health insurance resource

Next Affordable Care Act marketplace open enrollment begins Nov. 15

October 06, 2014

Members looking for Affordable Care Act-compliant health insurance options during the next ACA marketplace open enrollment period beginning Nov. 15 through Feb. 15, 2015, can look to the ADA.org health insurance resource page, which also links to the ADA-endorsed American Health Insurance Exchange.

The AHIX Web portal gives interested ADA members access to state public exchange health insurance plans and private ACA-compliant plans.

There is no national plan available under the Affordable Care Act but ACA-compliant health plans in a state are available to all residents in that state.

Shop for health insurance at ADA.org/healthinsurance, which links to the AHIX portal as well as health insurance information and resources offered by many state dental associations.

For members in states that are not listed, the ADA-endorsed AHIX website offers on- and off-exchange health plan options. The information, resources and products offered through the AHIX at ADA.org are provided by JLBG Health, the J.L. Barnes Insurance Agency, Inc. AHIX health insurance information is available at the ADA members-only toll-free number 1-888-715-6592. Visit the ADA ahix.com website for more information.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services lists four key dates for the ACA health insurance marketplace:

  • Nov. 15, open enrollment begins; apply for, keep or change coverage.
  • Dec. 15, enroll by this date if you want new coverage that begins on Jan. 1, 2015; if your plan is changing or you want to change plans, enroll by this date to avoid a lapse in coverage.
  • Dec. 31, coverage ends for 2014 plans; coverage for 2015 plans can start as soon as Jan. 1, 2015.
  • Feb. 15, 2015, the last day to apply for 2015 coverage before the end of open enrollment.
