Dr. Ira B. Lamster, former dean of Columbia University College of Dental Medicine, will become editor in January 2015 of the International Dental Journal, the main scientific publication of FDI World Dental Federation.

Dr. Lamster, professor in the Department of Health Policy & Management, Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, has experience serving on editorial boards of scientific journals, including the IDJ. His expertise is in oral health research for over three decades, including, significantly, the impact of diabetes mellitus on oral health and the biochemical diagnosis of oral diseases.

His academic background also includes a variety of posts on the dental faculty at Columbia University, including serving as dean from 2001-12.

Dr. Lamster will replace Dr. Stephen Hancocks, IDJ editor since 1990. He will be only the fifth editor since 1951 when IDJ was first presented as the official organ of FDI World Dental Federation.
