Wildcat winner: Dr. Greg Cast, a graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry, receives Dental Lifeline Network’s 2015 Brian D. Dr. Cast was among 19 recipients across the country of the award recognizing their volunteerism and effort to help people with special needs.
“The Brian D. Stone Memorial Award enables dental schools across the country to honor young dentists who, early in their careers, have demonstrated an interest in helping vulnerable people or in volunteer service,” said Fred Leviton, president of DLN, which operates Donated Dental Services programs.
The award is named after the son of Drs. Joy and Justin Stone, of New Jersey, who established the Brian D. Stone Memorial Fund over 30 years ago. Dr. Justin Stone, in his career, treated patients with disabilities and formed what is now Dental Lifeline Network – New Jersey in 1976 to help people with developmental disabilities.
Through the memorial fund, the awards program began in 2010 in a few states in which DLN operates DDS programs. This year, a record 19 graduating dental students received the award. All accredited dental schools are eligible to participate and select one student at no cost to the school.
