Dr. Hayashi, former 14th District trustee, dies at 94

Honolulu — Dr. Bert Yukio Hayashi, past 14th District trustee of the ADA and former president of the Hawaii Dental Association, died July 4. He was 94.
Dr. Hayashi served as president of the Hawaii Dental Association in 1979 and was a trustee for the Association from 1985 to 1991. A veteran of World War II who served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in Germany, he was a deputy district governor of the Lions Club, director of Aloha United Way and president of the Eye Foundation of Hawaii.
Born in 1921, Dr. Hayashi was a native of Hawaii and graduated from the University of Hawaii with a bachelor’s degree in marine biology. He received his dental degree from the University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Dentistry. Dr. Hayashi established his private practice in Honolulu in 1953.
In 1988, the Pierre Fauchard Academy bestowed on him the Outstanding Contributions Award, and the same year the Hawaii Dental Association gave him the Outstanding Achievement Award.
Dr. Hayashi is survived by his wife Clara, sons Gerald and Craig, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Hosoi Garden Mortuary, 30 N. Kukui St, Honolulu at 3 p.m. Aug. 8, with services at 4 p.m.
