ADA member dentists and others in the dental community have the chance to weigh-in on proposed changes to the Code on Dental Procedures and Nomenclature at the Code Maintenance Committee meeting.

The CMC will meet at ADA Headquarters in Chicago March 5-7 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. to address 74 requests for CDT Code additions and other changes. Thirty-seven of the 74 requests were submitted by practicing dentists or dental team members. Accepted requests will be incorporated into CDT-2016.

The meeting is open to request submitters and other interested parties, who are invited to comment on any of the CDT Code action requests on the agenda. A majority of the 21 votes cast by committee member organizations determines whether a requested change is accepted or declined.

The ADA chairs the meeting and has five votes; the nine ADA recognized dental specialty organization plus the Academy of General Dentistry and the American Dental Education Association have one vote each; and the five payer organizations have one vote each.

The CDT Code is ADA intellectual property and named by the federal government as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act standard for reporting dental services on claims. The ADA Council on Dental Benefit Programs established the CMC to ensure that all stakeholders have an active role in evaluating and voting on CDT Code changes.
The CMC is taking submissions for incorporation into CDT 2017 until Nov. 1. For more information, visit ADA.org/publication/cdt.
