January 12, 2015
San Antonio — Dr. Carol Gomez Summerhays, a San Diego dentist and president-elect of the American Dental Association, helped celebrate the new year with 15 other medical professionals visiting Army medical facilities Jan. 2.
The U.S. Army Recruiting Command brought the doctors, educators and nurses to Brooke Army Medical Center, the Army Institute of Surgical Research Burn Center, the Center for the Intrepid rehabilitation center and a field hospital. Maj. Gen. Allen Batschelet, commanding general of the Army Recruiting Command, hosted the health professionals.
"Growing up as a military dependent, most of my medical care was in Army hospitals," Dr. Summerhays said. "It is gratifying to see the excellent medical care that is still being provided to our country's military personnel and the utilization of advanced technologies to improve outcomes."
"Army medicine wants to expand subject matter expert visits to your facilities to help, share and educate," Maj. Gen. Batschelet said. "Our current partnerships pay great dividends for both the Army and the medical professionals with whom we work. We are always looking to offer the same partnership opportunities to more hospitals and health care educators throughout the country to stay connected to our civilian counterparts."
