Volunteers sought for SNODENT standards review

January 26, 2015

By Jean Williams

The ADA is seeking volunteer participants for a committee to consider approval of SNODENT as an American National Standard.

Qualified volunteers for the ADA SNODENT Canvass Committee should be interested in or materially affected by SNODENT, shorthand for the ADA Systemized Nomenclature of Dentistry.

The ADA Council on Dental Benefit Programs developed SNODENT as standardized oral health terminology for the recording of clinical detail and patient characteristics to enable the consistent capture, aggregation, transmission, retrieval and analysis of data across health care systems and interoperability with electronic dental records.  SNODENT clinical terminology includes oral anatomical sites, oral health conditions, findings, and other clinical concepts unique to dentistry.

The ADA Department of Standards will administer the ADA SNODENT Canvass Committee—which will review, comment and vote on whether SNODENT should be forwarded to the American National Standards Institute for approval as an ANSI standard.

The ADA is an ANSI-accredited standards developing organization that adheres to a voluntary consensus process that is transparent, open to all interested parties and which seeks a balance of interests.

For more information or to join the ADA SNODENT Canvass Committee, contact Paul Bralower by February 26 at the ADA toll-free number, ext. 4129, or email bralowerp@ada.org.
