ADA offers brief response to PLOS Medicine article
March 11, 2015
A March 10 PLOS Medicine journal online publication refers to dental caries research conducted more than 40 years ago, and the Association cannot offer comment on the article, the ADA told inquiring news media representatives.
"The ADA has the highest regard for the quality and integrity of the work conducted and funded by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR, formerly NIDR), an agency of the National Institutes of Health and the world's premier source of scientific investigation aimed at improving oral health," the Association's written statement said. "The ADA will continue to support the NIDCR, including advocating before Congress for funding that the agency needs to fulfill its vital mission."
The PLOS Medicine article is presented as a historical analysis of the research agenda of the National Institute of Dental Research, which changed its name to the current NIDCR in 1998.
