ADA offers guidance on health insurance law

More people are able to purchase dental benefits within medical plans through the Affordable Care Act but questions have arisen on whether there are more administrative demands when it comes to coordination of benefits.

The ADA House of Delegates in 2014 passed House Resolution 63RC, which calls for ADA agencies to develop guidance on coordination of benefits.

Members are encouraged to review the draft document and let the Council on Dental Benefit Programs staff know if it's helpful or if additional information is necessary to make it a better resource.

Any member who wishes to provide a comment should send it to dentalbenefits@ada.org by April 9.

"The coordination of benefits of these new plans is very confusing for both patients and dentists," said Dr. Charles Hoffman, chair of the Council on Dental Benefit Programs, which is leading the effort.

"I'm confident the ADA can develop guidance that will make it easier for dentists to understand how to navigate these changes."
