Dr. Roberts is ADA president-elect; Dr. Irene Marron-Tarrazzi elected second vice president

Dr. Roberts: Dr. Gary L. Roberts, of Shreveport, Louisiana, was elected Monday president-elect of the ADA in balloting at the House of Delegates at ADA 2015 – America’s Dental Meeting in Washington, D.C.
In balloting at the House of Delegates Monday, Dr. Gary L. Roberts, of Shreveport, Louisiana, was elected president-elect of the American Dental Association. Dr. Irene Marron-Tarrazzi of Miami was elected second vice president.
Dr. Roberts addressed the House after the results were announced, thanking them and his supporters.
He also thanked the 12th District — which he called the “best district” in his “personal, prejudiced opinion,” earning a laugh from the House.
He then thanked ADA staff and his family, his children, grandchildren, and especially his wife, Teresa.
“If it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t be here today,” he said. “Thank you, baby. You’re not going to see me very much but I’ll be thinking about you!”
Dr. Roberts, an ADA member for 41 years, is immediate past trustee of the ADA’s 12th District.
Dr. Marron-Tarrazzi is a past member of the ADA New Dentist Committee, an alumna of the ADA Institute for Diversity in Leadership and a speaker for the ADA Success Program. She has been an ADA member for 12 years.
Dr. Roberts is a past member of the ADA Council on Ethics, Bylaws and Judicial Affairs, Council on Government Affairs and was chair of the Committee on Budget and Finance. He served as a trustee liaison to the Council on Dental Practice, Council on Annual Sessions and the Council on Dental Education and Licensure.
Dr. Roberts is also a past president of the Louisiana Dental Association. Dr. Roberts is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry and Ark-La-Tex Academy of Dentistry. He is a fellow of the American College of Dentists, International College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. He earned his dental degree from the Texas A&M Baylor College of Dentistry.
Dr. Roberts will succeed Dr. Carol Gomez Summerhays as ADA president when the House reconvenes in Denver next fall.
Dr. Marron-Tarrazzi has served as president of the South Florida District Dental Association and treasurer of the Florida Dental Association Political Action Committee.

Dr. Marron-Tarrazzi is a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, American Association of Women Dentists and Hispanic Dental Association. She is a fellow of the International College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy.
Originally from Venezuela, Dr. Marron-Tarrazzi studied dentistry at the Universidad Central de Venezuela. She completed her post-doctoral training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she earned her Certificate in Periodontology and Master of Science degree, and in 2003, Dr. Marron-Tarrazzi earned her dental degree from Nova Southeastern University.
Dr. Marron-Tarrazzi is an adjunct faculty member at Nova Southeastern University and the University of Florida Hialeah Dental Clinic. She owns a private practice in Miami.
