New dentist blog: better, brighter

October 05, 2015

By Kimber Solana

To help better connect new dentists and dental students to news and insights on the dental profession, the ADA New Dentist Committee launched Sept. 29 a redesigned New Dentist Now blog website.

The new website, accessible at newdentistblog.ada.org, allows visitors, specifically dentists who graduated from dental school fewer than 10 years ago, to subscribe by email and more easily share their favorite blog posts on social media.

"Social media is a great way for us to stay in touch and learn about experiences from dentists across the country," said Dr. Justin Norbo, a member of the ADA New Dentist Committee. "The New Dentist Now blog is a perfect place for new dentists to turn to as they navigate the twists and turns of the first 10 years of practice.

The redesign comes two years after New Dentist Now launched in the summer of 2013. The blog includes several guest bloggers across the country, including Dr. Emily Hobart, who is sharing her first year experiences as a new dentist in the blog series, "My New Dentist Life." Guest bloggers include Dr. Daryn Lu, Shawnee, Oklahoma; Dr. Joe Vaughn, Seattle; Dr. Brenden Moon, Carthage, Illinois; Dr. Katie Sowa, Katy, Texas; Dr. Cappy Sinclair, Virginia Beach, Virginia; and Rich McIver, who manages a practice he and his wife, Dr. Holly McIver, opened in Kingwood, Texas.

The blog also allows new dentists to stay fresh on topics in dentistry, including new dentist finances, marketing, growing the practice and continuing education. In addition, the blog shared resources, including articles from the Center for Professional Success, on ethics, advocacy, licensure and health and wellness.
