2015 Golden Apple Award recipients announced

The ADA announced Sept. 21 the recipients of the 27th annual Golden Apple Awards, which honor leaders, members and staff who have contributed to the success of dental society activities.
The Ohio Dental Association received the Golden Apple for Legislative Achievement for a state dental society with total membership of more than 1,000 dentists for its "Ohio Dental Care Improvement & Modernization Act."
In the recruitment category of the Golden Apple for Excellence in Membership Recruitment and Retention Activity, the award went to the San Fernando Valley Dental Society for its "Non-Member Ambassador Program." The retention category went to the Sacramento District Dental Society for its "Member Appreciation Week" event.
For the Excellence in Dental Health Promotion to the Public, the award for a dental society with total membership of more than 1,000 dentists, went to the Wisconsin Dental Association for its "Own Your Smile: Promoting Oral Health Literacy" program.
In the Excellence in Member-Related Services/Benefits, the Golden Apple for a dental society with total membership fewer than 1,000 dentists, the award went to the San Francisco Dental Society for its "Dental Job Fair." For a dental society with total membership more than 1,000 dentists went to the Michigan Dental Association for its "MDA Health Plan."
The Michigan Dental Association also received the Dr. David H. McCarley Golden Apple Award for Excellence in the Promotion of Dental Ethics for its "Articles Covering Ethical and Legal Consideration."
The Massachusetts Dental Society received the Golden Apple for Achievement in Dental School/Student Involvement in Organized Dentistry for its "2015 Student Debate" program.
The Excellence in Dentist Well-Being Golden Apple went to the Chicago Dental Society for its "Ergonomic Wellness Center."
Nominations were received for the Open Category in this year's Golden Apple Awards. The Florida Dental Association received the state award for its program "Uniting the Brand."
The Excellence in Access to Dental Care Programs award went to the Maryland State Dental Association's "Long Term Care — Mini Residency."
The Green Apple Award for Excellence in Environmentally Sustainable Programs & Education went to San Fernando Valley Dental Society's "Schlep and Shred" program.
In Outstanding Achievement in the Promotion of Diversity and Inclusion, the Greater Houston Dental Society received the local award for its "Houston Dental Festival, Diversity & Inclusion Excellence" event.
The San Antonio District Dental Society received the Golden Apple for Excellence in Interprofessional Education for its "Innovations: Students, Faculty, Refugees and the Church" program.
In Excellence in Interprofessional Relations, the San Francisco Dental Society received the Golden Apple for its "Children's Oral Health Collaborative" program.
