Sports dentistry conference offers trauma training
May 09, 2016
— Dental professionals can earn continuing education credits June 23-25 at the Academy for Sports Dentistry's 34th Annual Symposium, Sports Dentistry for Today's Athletes.
Courses include a hands-on mouthguard workshop; a seminar focusing on the recognition and management of bone injuries; and a session about dental trauma. The conference's symposium covers topics including temporomandibular joint dysfunction in sports, use of smokeless tobacco in baseball, concussion evaluation and horizontal root fractures.
Dentists, dental team members, dental laboratory technicians, dental students and athletic trainers are among those encouraged to attend, said Dr. Howard Salob, a Maryland dentist and the conference chair.
"The symposium will give any dentist, whether interested in sports or not, the ability to gain knowledge to treat any type of trauma in their office," Dr. Salob said. "We treat many types of trauma — from bike accidents of children to more complicated sports injuries — and the symposium gives us knowledge to treat each type."
Registration closes June 16. For more information or to register, visit www.academyforsportsdentistry.org
