Henry Schein Cares Medal rewards access to care initiatives

August 14, 2017 Henry Schein is accepting applications for the third annual Henry Schein Cares Medal program, which recognizes oral health organizations that demonstrate excellence in expanding access to care for the underserved.

The deadline to apply is Oct. 5 at midnight Eastern time.  Finalists will be announced in January 2018 and medals will be awarded at the 2018 national sales meeting of Henry Schein's dental division.

"The positive impact each applicant has on its community should serve as an example for others to emulate, and strengthens Team Schein's resolve to 'help health happen' across the U.S. and around the world," said Stanley M. Bergman, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Henry Schein.

A panel will select three finalists, with a gold, silver and bronze medalist chosen. Each medalist will receive a cash award in the following amounts: $15,000 for gold; $10,000 for silver; and $5,000 for bronze. In addition, each finalist will receive $10,000 worth of product from Henry Schein.

To be considered a candidate for this award, applicants must be a nonprofit organization or trust and a public charity. The applicant should demonstrate that the program has expanded access to health care for the underserved in a novel and innovative way that is measurable and quantifiable.

Earlier this year, the second annual Henry Schein Cares Medal winners were announced at the company's national sales meeting. The gold medal went to Community Dental Care in Maplewood, Minnesota; silver was awarded to the Interfaith Dental Clinic of Nashville in Tennessee; and the Gaston Family Health Services in Gastonia, North Carolina, received the bronze.

Medals are also awarded to organizations in the fields of animal health and medicine.
