Learn more about CDT Code at annual meeting

August 30, 2017

By David Burger

Atlanta — The newest CDT Code version is effective Jan. 1, 2018, but that doesn't preclude dental team members from getting a head start on learning all about the code set's evolution at ADA 2017 – America's Dental Meeting in October — and how they can become involved.

CDT Code Open Forum: Annual Maintenance Concepts and Processes (6801) is designed to be a space where dentists and dental team members can ask questions from the people who maintain and adapt the code into what it will be in 2018 and beyond.

"Dentists play an important role in the CDT Code's evolution and growth through their requests for new codes or revision to existing codes," said Dr. Steven Snyder, vice chair of the ADA Council on Dental Benefit Programs and leader of the session. "The forum is an opportunity to meet and discuss how their ideas can be refined, submitted and possibly become part of the CDT Code. Attendees can talk with their colleagues and members of the Council on Dental Benefit Programs who represent their interests on the Code Maintenance Committee."

Created in partnership with the Council on Dental Benefit Programs and co-led by Dr. Christopher Bulnes, chair of the Codes Subcommittee, the session is Oct. 20 from 1-2 p.m. The no-fee course offers one hour of CE credit.

After this course, participants will be able to:

  • Appreciate how the CDT Code evolves to stay relevant.
  • Understand their role in annual CDT Code maintenance.
  • Prepare and submit a CDT Code action request.

Earlier this year, the Code Maintenance Committee approved 18 new codes, 16 revisions to existing codes and three deletions. All these changes will be part of CDT 2018, which becomes effective Jan. 1, 2018.

Nov. 1 is the closing date for requests that will be considered for inclusion in CDT 2019.
