March 29 webinar to cover safe uses, handling of medicines

February 16, 2017 The ADA is hosting a webinar March 29 from 2-3 p.m. Central time on How to Discuss Safe Use, Storage and Disposal of Medicines including Opioids with Your Dental Patients.

Speaker Deborah Davidson, senior director at the National Council on Patient Information and Education, will discuss why it is important for dentists to have conversations with patients about the medicines, both prescription and nonprescription, they are prescribing following a dental visit or surgery. All medicines have the potential for misuse by the patient or possibly by a family member or visitor in the home.

The webinar will also give providers tips for explaining the benefits and potential risks of the medicines they prescribe as well as information about proper storage and safe disposal of unused medicines.

Participants in the live webinar session are eligible for one hour of continuing education. To register, visit the website.

According its website, the National Council on Patient Information and Education, located in Rockville, Maryland, is a nonprofit multi-stakeholder coalition working to stimulate and improve communication of information on the appropriate use of medicines to consumers and health care professionals.
