Stay up to date on CDT 2017 codes
January 13, 2017
CDT 2017 codes went into effect Jan. 1 and the annually revised edition features 11 new codes, five revised codes and one deleted code.
For example, dentists can begin using “D4346 Scaling in the generalized presence of moderate or severe gingival inflammation — full mouth, after oral evaluation.” The code reflects the procedure for patients with gingival disease and no attachment loss. Dentists who have delivered the procedure have not been able to document and report it with an appropriate CDT code until now.
The ADA also released an overhauled CDT 2017 Coding Companion: Help Guide for the Dental Team and the CDT Code Check for iOS and Android.
CDT 2017 is the most up-to-date coding resource and the only Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act-recognized code set for dentistry. Coding correctly can help reduce claims rejection and increase reimbursement levels.
