Upcoming webinar focuses on dental team members with opioid disorders

July 11, 2017 Patients are not the only people in the dental office who could be addicted to opioids.

It could also include a dental team member.

That is the motivation for a free Aug. 9 webinar called Peer Assistance for the Dental Team Member with Opioid Dependency from 2-3 p.m. CDT.

Participants are eligible for one hour of continuing education credit.

According to the course description, opioid and other substance disorders create deepening shame and guilt of the dental team member who has the disorder, typically leading to more and more isolating behavior as the disorder progresses. Peer assistance programs work with the person with the malady to treat the disorder, thus drawing the individual back into being an active and productive member of the dental team.

The speaker is Brian Fingerson, adjunct assistant professor at the University of Kentucky Colleges of Pharmacy and Sullivan University College of Pharmacy; assistant professor at the Department of Oral Health Science, University of Kentucky College of Dentistry; and lecturer who has presented at conferences all over the United States. He is president of Kentucky Professionals Recovery Network, a company formed to educate health care professionals about substance use disorders and to monitor the recovery of Kentucky licensed professionals with addictions.

The registration link can be accessed here.

The webinar will be available on PCSS-O.org after Aug. 9.
