The ADA News, Dental Practice Success and Product Development and Sales each earned EXCEL Awards from Association Media & Publishing, a trade group for association publishing.

The EXCEL Awards recognizes excellence and leadership in nonprofit association media, publishing, marketing and communications.

"The ADA is proud to be on the forefront of new products and e-communications that keep us relevant to our 160,000 members," said Michael Springer, senior vice president of business and publishing.

The winners were selected from nearly 830 entries from across the association publishing industry.

"We are excited to honor outstanding work in the association media and publishing industry this year," said Meredith Taylor, AM&P executive director, in a news release. "These awards showcase the organizations that are producing innovative work in a rapidly changing world."

Dental Practice Success, a quarterly digital magazine designed to help dentists focus on the business side of their practices, won a gold award for editorial excellence in digital publishing for the fall 2016 issue. The bronze awards were for general excellence in digital for the summer and fall 2016 issues and design excellence in digital for the spring, summer and fall 2016 issues. Dental Practice Success is designed by layout and design coordinator Geralyn Novotny.

The 2017 ADA Catalog won a gold award in the promotional content: directory, buyers guide or catalog category. The ADA Catalog is the dental profession's premier sourcebook for products including the CDT 2017: Dental Procedure Codes manual, HIPAA and OSHA kits, patient education materials, practice management books and staff training videos. The ADA Catalog is published twice annually, in September and January.

The ADA News won a silver award for editorial excellence for newspapers for a series of stories in a single issue. Three stories in the Feb. 1, 2016, issue were recognized, including "Orthodontist's Kageno Builds Hope in Kenya, Rwanda," by David Burger, senior editor; "U.S. Nonprofit Works to Reconstruct Congolese Boy's Face After Chimp Attack," by Mr. Burger; and "Henry Schein Settles with FTC Over Complaints About Software," by Kelly Soderlund, deputy news editor.

The ADA News also received a bronze award for design excellence in newspapers for the Sept 19, 2016, Oct. 3, 2016, and Oct. 17, 2016 issues.

New Dentist Now, a blog focused on issues important to new dentists coordinated by Kimber Solana, senior editor for the ADA News, received the bronze award for digital media.

CDT 2017: Dental Procedure Codes was awarded bronze in the technical books category. CDT 2017 is a book that contains the comprehensive code set for dental insurance billing and documentation.

The EXCEL Awards were announced June 26 during the 37th Annual EXCEL Awards Gala in Washington, D.C.

"Recognition by one's industry peers is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the talent and ingenuity within the association community," said Randy Nanna, EXCEL Award chair.
