FDA finalizes guidance on the prohibition of distributing free samples of tobacco products

October 12, 2017

Silver Spring, Md.—The Food and Drug Administration announced Oct. 11 that it has finalized guidance on the prohibition of distributing free samples of tobacco products.

The guidance applies to all tobacco products that are subject to FDA’s tobacco product authority, including e-cigarettes, the agency said, and is intended to help tobacco product manufacturers, distributors and retailers learn how to comply with the regulations.

The ADA is working with policymakers, public health leaders and others to help prevent oral cancer, pharyngeal cancer and other oral diseases associated with tobacco use. The Association is especially concerned about the oral health impact of the latest generation of tobacco products, including e-cigarettes, e-cigarette cartridges, snus, dissolvable tobacco, tobacco gels and more.
