Letters: Group practice advantages

September 01, 2014 As someone who contributed to Dr. Valachovic's dental education, and who admires his contributions to dentistry, I applaud his My View ("From Bungalow To Big Box," July 14 ADA News). Many years ago, I recognized the advantages of group practice and built my own group so as to support my educational habit. Today's students, unlike those of my era, are saddled with enormous debt, while, at the same time, keeping up with a much faster pace of growth in dental technology and technique. It is difficult to meet that debt service and to provide the latest in evidence-based dental treatment without the stimulation and the earning power of a group. At the same time, it is incumbent upon us as educators to provide the business skills and ethical standards to assure our patients of appropriate and ethical care.
