Survey Center reports examine dentists and their patients
Pediatric Dentists in Private Practice, part of the ADA's 2006 Survey of Dental Practice specialty series, also shows that the average gross billings per owner for all independent pediatric dentists was $979,060 in 2005.
In addition to net income and gross billings information, the report includes information on practice expenses, number of hours worked, time spent in the dental practice, number of patient visits, patients' insurance coverage, gender and age distribution of patients and employment of dental practice personnel for pediatric dentists. Multiple-year trend charts are included for many of these statistics.
The percentage of female owner dentists in private practice continues to increase, according to a new report published by the ADA Survey Center.
"Characteristics of Dentists in Private Practice and Their Patients," the most recent report published from the 2006 Survey of Dental Practice, reports that the percentage of female owner dentists increased from 9.4 percent in 2001 to 12.9 percent in 2005.
The report includes statistics on subjects ranging from a dentist's average number of patient visits per week to the percentage of his or her patients covered by private insurance.
The 2006 edition of the report also includes data on dentists' submission of claims electronically; provision of charitable care; and reimbursement received from dental insurance carriers for four common procedures.
The cost of each report (item PED-2006 or item SDPC-2006) is $100 for ADA members, $150 for nonmember dentists and $300 for commercial firms, plus shipping and handling. They are also available for purchase as a downloadable file (item PED-2006D or item SDPC-2006D, respectively).
