ADA CE Online gets new look, courses, features

Changes, additions coming May 1

As members' continuing education needs expand, so does ADA CE Online.

ADA CE Online

In a 2010 survey of private practice dentists, almost three-quarters said they are likely to take an online CE course; 78 percent were interested in the ADA as a source of CE delivery; and 93 percent called the delivery of CE by the ADA an important membership benefit.

What's more, 59 percent of those responding said they have taken a CE course online, and 18 percent of those people have taken an ADA CE Online course. Of that percentage, 94 percent ranked the course quality as very good.

ADA CE Online—which offers clinical and practice management courses for dentists and members of the dental team—recently unveiled a new design, additional courses and more user-friendly features.

There are many convenient no-cost options, and courses are accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Users can start and stop as needed.

New additions coming to ADA CE Online May 1 include additional free courses and new courses:

  • Providing Exceptional Customer Service is a free Lunch and Learn course that provides tips on building patient rapport and communicating with children, seniors and patients who have limited health literacy; calming anxious patients; accommodating patients with special needs; generating referrals and telephone communications.
  • Prevention of Infective Endocarditis: What Dentists Should Know (based on updated 2007 American Heart Association guidelines) is a free Timely Topic course that presents dental professionals with an overview of the prevention and treatment of infective endocarditis.
  • Introducing the Code: What it is and How it Works For You—An introduction to the Code on Dental Procedures and Nomenclature including claims submission requirements and how claim adjudication problems can be identified and resolved;
  • ADA Practical Guide To HIPAA Compliance Kit (Test Only)—This test-only supplement supports the ADA Practical Guide to HIPAA Compliance: Privacy and Security Kit. Test questions are from the kit. With purchase of the kit and completion of the test, users will be awarded 8 CE units;
  • An MP3 from the Australian Dental Association (provided by the ADA Division of Global Affairs), Interviews with Six Experts on Key Topics Effecting Dentistry Today—Experts discuss current topics and their impact on dentistry, including Dr. Susan Calderbank on cancer; Dr. Michael Glick on chairside health testing; Dr. Van Haywood on bleaching; Dr. Kaneta Lott on parenting; Dr. Stanley Malamed on sedation; and Dr. Daniel Meyer on evidence-based practice.

In addition, many enhancements have been made to ADA CE Online to make navigation easier, including a four-step registration process with four pricing levels that match user profiles, electronic customer service assistance, a CE print certificate alert and a link to state licensing institutions.
