Dr. Giannobile appointed JDR editor-in-chief

Alexandria, Va.— Dr. William V. Giannobile, appointed Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Dental Research, will begin his term in April 2010, the International and American Associations for Dental Research announced Dec. 22.

He will succeed Anthony "Tony" Smith, who has served as JDR Editor-in-Chief since 2004.

Dr. Giannobile is a William K. and Mary Anne Najjar endowed professor of dentistry and the director of the Michigan Center for Oral Health Research at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry where he is professor of biomedical engineering at the College of Engineering. He was a faculty member at Harvard and The Forsyth Institute in Boston. He completed a sabbatical year in 2006 as a visiting professor at the Biotechnology Institute of Regenerative Medicine at the University of Genova Medical School in Genova, Italy, and at the School of Dentistry at the University of Milan.

"Dr. Giannobile was appointed as the JDR Editor-in-Chief after an extensive international search process," said IADR President David M. Williams.

The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for a full range of editorial duties including review and acceptance of manuscripts in cooperation with associate editors, reviewers and an editorial board, working closely with the IADR/AADR commercial publishing partner, SAGE Publications, Inc. The Editor-in-Chief is a member of the IADR/AADR Boards of Directors and Councils and the Publications Committee.
