Three states offer access reports
Georgia, Michigan and Wisconsin this summer issued reports on access to oral health care issues in their states.
The Georgia Dental Association in June released the report, "White Paper on Georgia's Oral Health Status, Access to and Utilization of Oral Health Care Services." The 12-page white paper, written by the GDA Patient Protection Task Force, is available in PDF format from the website, www.gadental.org.
The Michigan Access to Oral Health Care Work Group last month released its report, "A United Voice for Oral Health." The 35-page report offers solutions for making dental care more accessible and can be downloaded in PDF format at the Michigan Dental Association website: www.smilemichigan.com.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services issued its report, "2010—Burden of Oral Disease in Wisconsin." The Wisconsin Dental Association board of trustees is reviewing the 74-page report and will discuss it at its September meeting. A PDF of the report can be downloaded at this online link: www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/health/Oral_Health/Burden2010.pdf.
The WDA anticipates referencing this new data as it develops and launches its own comprehensive access policy proposal within an ADA State Public Affairs grant.
